Eating Xiaolongbao—Shanghai’s famous soup dumplings—takes skill.

How to eat Xiaolongbao:

  1. Grab. Gently pick up with chopsticks, never stab.
  2. Dip. Vinegar, soy, and hot sauce are choice condiments. Mixing all three is recommended.
  3. Bite. Carefully pierce the dumpling with your teeth.
  4. Sip. Slurp up the delicious broth.
  5. Devour.
